エア マックス 1 Big Bubble 。スニーカーのカルチャーと歴史は、この一足から始まった。

ファンが追い求める至高のスニーカーが、ビジブルNike Airの真の歴史を従えて復活する。わずか約400,000足限定で発売された Big Bubble の一足をCTスキャンを使って詳細に分析し、1986年のオリジナルバージョンに使われたNike Airユニットとウィンドウを再現することに成功。スニーカーの歴史の根底を成すシューズを体感することが可能になった。レトロなカラーブロックデザインも健在だ。

このモデルの存在は、長らくNike Airの登場というビッグニュースの影に隠されていた。発売されて数か月以内のエア マックス 1は、実はおなじみの標準モデルよりもひとまわり大きなウィンドウを搭載している。後にウィンドウを小さくした理由は、露出したAirユニットに低温下でひびが入りやすくなることがわかったから。この問題をNikeのエンジニアが発見した時、すでにシューズの製造はスタートして発売日も迫っていた。慌てたエンジニアは、ひそかにラインを止めてウィンドウの長さと高さを縮小。ひび割れない小ぶりなAirユニットに差し替えた。

そして発売日の1987年3月26日がやってくる。店頭に並んだのは、直前の仕様変更が間に合わなかった超レアなエア マックス “Big Bubble だ。春の陽気のおかげで、幸いAirユニットがひび割れることはなかった。初回のキャンペーン終了後、幻のオリジナルバージョンは密かにおなじみのエア マックス 1と差し替え。その後はご存じのAir Maxブームを牽引した。一度は歴史の闇に消え去った伝説の Big Bubble 。今回の復活で、再び新たなスタートを切る。
